[MlMt] Big Sur problem

Try holding down the command key while dragging the application to the desktop. Let go of the key and the mouse button, then do it the other way: hold down command and drag the app back to your desired folder.

Not saying this IS the solution to your problem, but "failure to update" is a common issue, and this always works for me.
