[MlMt] Weird focus issues in r5748 on macOS 11

This seems to have started happening again from time to time, though I 
don't seem to be able to reproduce it as reliably as a few months ago.  
Opening a received message in a new window definitely seems to be part 
of the cause though.

Has anyone else seen this happening?
