I can say that currently I have initial filtering into folders extracted into an imapfilter lua script. 

This script main work is to take any message that has an List-Id and transform that into a folder location via a regular expression. 

So i.e.  org.eclipse.jdt-Dev is put into folder named lists/eclipse/jdt.dev and org.jboss.hibernate-Dev ends up in lists/jboss/hibernate-Dev. 

I personally would t use it since I need the filtering to occur even when not running mailmate but If I was 100% desktop user I would love this kind of feature.
