Yes, that does not make much sense. It should not make any difference 
how you activate the mailbox list, but I cannot reproduce the problem. 
Note that if there is an active search then tab'ing goes through the 
“Details/Save/-” buttons if you have full keyboard navigation 
enabled in System Preferences.
