Ok, sorry I haven't looked into the entire thread. This might also have 
been tried:

1. Make sure that “Play user interface sound effects” is enabled in 
system settings. It's in the Sound preferences pane.

2. Make sure sounds for notifications are allowed for MailMate in the 
Notifications system preferences pane.
