Thanks Benny. I guess I wasn’t sufficiently clear: I’d like the zoom 
to ***not*** be temporary but rather permanent, meaning not change when 
I switch messages. I actually want the text in the pane to be *smaller*, 
so when i set the zoom to 90% or 80% I want that zoom level to stay 
until I change it. Just as the font setting is permanent.

The problem is that some html emails use a larger font than necessary 
and/or fix the width to a value wider than the pane. And I’m on a 
13” MacBook Air and so I don’t have as much real estate as I used 
to. Thanks.
