Well, it's plain text in the composition window, but the important thing 
here is that what gets sent "on the wire" is HTML. I mentioned that 99% 
of the email I send is plain text because the original poster mentioned 
using mark down, which gets converted to HTML when sent, and because it 
seems plausible that Outlook might behave differently with plain text 
versus HTML email.
