Blame Microsoft. ‘/‘ was the only slash on Teletypes, also known as 
‘fracbar’ - fraction bar. It became the standard. DOS used ‘\’ 
for something and M$ called it ‘slash’. Been causing confusion ever 
since. Taking and existing definition and changing it to fit a M$-only 
world has been a hobby of M$.
