[MlMt] Delete messages completely in the Deleted Messages Folder older than a month?

There must be something I'm not understanding about the new interface.
I've followed these steps, but can't complete a new rule:

- I right-click the Deleted Messages folder, and then click Edit
Rules...

- In the resulting window, the rightmost icon at the top of the window
is displayed. I click the + icon at the bottom of the rules list to
create a new rule.

- I name the new rule.

- I click the + button next to "No conditions added" in the Conditions
section, but nothing happens. I can't take any further action.

When I click the second icon at the top of the window, "Conditions for
messages displayed," I can create the condition I want, so the creation
of conditions isn't disabled in every case. However, I don't want to
merely limit the displayed items, I want to permanently delete older
items, per Henry's (incomplete) directions below.

Can anyone tell me why I'm stalled out after the third step above? I'm
running MailMate 6063.
