That is implemented between the screen and your perception...

Each letter is followed by a Unicode U+0336 character (UTF-8: 0xCCB6) 
which puts a straight horizontal line through the preceding character at 
its vertical midpoint. Because every character has its own vertical 
midpoint the strikethrough is in slightly different places for each 
letter. Also, there's whitespace between each segment. The brain 
interprets that as a single 'crooked' line, even though in fact it is a 
series of straight flat short lines.
