[MlMt] Searching inconsistency

I am searching for a particular email address, call it abc at def.com,
using the search bar.

If I type "f abc at def.com" I get 4 results
If I type "t abc at def.com" I get zero hits
if I type "a abc at def.com" I get zero hits

If I simply type abc at def.com, I get 4 hits FROM abc at def.com (in
agreement with my search using the abbreviation f), and 6 hits TO
abc at def.com (in **DISAGREEMENT** with the searches that used the t and a
abbreviations.

All the searches are performed on the "All Messages" folder. Why should
such differences exist? Is this a bug or do I misunderstand something
about the search syntax? I'm using MailMate Version 2.0BETA (6055).
