I don't think any of the recent changes could affect Gmail behavior in 
this way.

Is this reproducible?

What happens if you take the INBOX offline and then online again?

Well, you got another reply on the list, but it's not a general issue. 
If you or someone else can either reproduce it or see it relatively 
often then I'd love to debug the issue.
