[MlMt] More about losing default column values

Hi,

I promised to post information about my issues with losing my default
columns. Since last writing about this I have updated to version 5114.
I am still seeing this problem, but have found a useful way to get my
set of default columns back easily when they revert to Mailmate's
standard default columns. I have decided to post this to the mailing
list, rather than to Benny personally because it might be useful to
everyone.

Usually, when I see this happen it is in a folder (smart or normal) that
is enclosed in another folder (it can only be seen by opening a
disclosure triangle). The enclosed folder suddenly has the standard
default columns instead of the ones I set it to when I click on it to
show it in the 3 panes window.

Here's how to fix it:

Start clicking on the enclosing (outer) folders until you find one that
still has your desired default columns. When you find one, then go
again to the View>Columns>Revert-To-Default-Columns menu item. This
seems to reset the columns again. You won't see a change because you
are asking Mailmate to "revert" even though you are already seeing the
correct columns in this outer folder. This does do something though,
because suddenly all the enclosed folders have your column set rather
than the default set!

This apparently only works if the enclosed folder at one time really had
a special column set and just doesn't seem to know about it anymore.

Before I upgraded to 5114 even enclosing folders would permanently lose
their special column set and I would have to create it again from notes
over and over. That does not seem to happen anymore, but the enclosed
folders problem persists and does still happen over and over again.

I hope this helps those who see this problem and also gives Benny a clue
as to where the problem lies.

-Helen
