Is the tag on the sent message or the replied message?

Since this is “Sent Mail” then I assume the problem is a tag
assigned in the Composer. The “not allowed now” part seems to
indicate that Gmail has some kind of restriction here (or that the
message simply does not exist).

Probably nothing. Gmail is not a standard IMAP server and there are
various quirks. This might just be yet another one.

It might be a race condition. MailMate behaves like a standard IMAP
client as far as possible. This includes uploading sent messages to Sent
Mail even though (non-standard) Gmail SMTP automatically puts sent
messages in the folder as well. Since only 1 copy can exist (again,
non-standard behavior) then there is a race condition with respect to
which one survives. This might mean that MailMate tries to set a label
on a message which has been removed by Gmail. But I'm just guessing
here.

You can hold down ⇧ when clicking “Retry”. If it's a persistent
problem then a log file is created on the Desktop. You can send that to
me and maybe it'll reveal more details.
