it doesn't matter, SSL is bad configured on the IMAP-server and at least 
with Dovecot this can be done also with valid certs - tried it ;-)
If the server advertises SSL/TLS on port 993 then it should work and not 
drop on-off, especially when the docs are saying so as well and 993 is 
obviously open.

Anyway STARTTLS on port 143 is working, so use this then, relax and enjoy,
