Thanks for chiming in.

I haven’t had this kind of behaviour before: A simple text line 
without any special markup (no link or similar) is scrambled.

I suspect this is a peculiar edge case where, I think, **MailMate** is 
doing something wired: Maybe it interprets the **text** “_<delete>_” 
as **HTML tag** `<del>`?
