But you likely do, if you are running a modern OS on APFS...

If you run "tmutil listbackups" you'll see all of the backups 
TimeMachine thinks that it has. If you run "diskutil listSnapshots 
disk1s5" (or whatever device is mounted as your "data" volume) you'll 
get a list of the snapshots that are actually on disk. Restoring a file 
(or app bundle) is straightforward: mount the snapshot, copy the file.
