Ooooooh… where to start? Anyone who has worked in the email biz could
spin a tale, but the short version is that internet protocols do not
evolve towards efficiency, and few developers are driven by an ethical
adherence to standards.
I would wager that the MailMate code base, as just one example in this
industry, is at least 10% specific checks and workarounds for known bad
actors. Probably more.
