I can appreciate the fact that you are trying to meet commercial expectations.

For my own business related emails I use markdown to provide bold and italics. I also insert a graphic, using markdown syntax and storing the graphic on my website. That has always worked well enough for me. I've never needed to provide an HTML variant.
