I've narrowed it down to these minimal conditions:
1. Using the font [`Iosevka`](https://github.com/be5invis/Iosevka) (I
use the one installable via `brew install font-iosevka`).
2. In a MailMate compose window.
3. This minimal text (there is a single leading space before `ps`):
```
ps://l
```
- Doesn't happen if I use a non-ligature version of Iosevka, e.g.,
`Iosevka Fixed`.
- Doesn't happen in other apps, e.g., TextEdit or TextMate.
- Doesn't happen if I change any characters in the string above, e.g., `
ps://x`.
- It's unrelated to the `mailto:` link from Airbnb, simply pasting in
the above string into a compose window is enough.
I think the issue maybe related to [OpenType contextual
alternates](https://lauraworthingtondesign.com/news/article/opentype-features)
in the Iosevka font itself, although I'm unsure why I can't reproduce
this in, e.g., TextMate.
