[MlMt] Becoming a MM patron

Hi all,

Just yesterday, I was thinking about how lucky we MailMate users are to have such a powerful, Mac-friendly app on our Macs and such a dedicated and responsive developer who keeps updating and improving it and fixing all kinds of problems.

And then today Benny sends his email about Google and the CASA tier 2 assessment…

While I stopped trusting big tech companies (including Apple!) a long time ago, which means that I rely on their products and services as little as possible and therefore that I am not a heavy Gmail user and would probably survive fairly comfortably without being able to use MM for Gmail access, it would be yet another annoyance and yet another enforced stumble down the enshittification drain.

I hope that Benny will find the energy and patience to maintain his app’s status with the powers that be at Google in the future, but I feel that this also means that, today more than ever, Benny really needs our support, including in very material ways. This is is why, if you feel the way I do about MailMate and about the fact that it is NOT just another Mac app that could be easily replaced if something happened to it, and if you are not yet a MailMate Patron and could afford to be one, I urge you to become one. If I remember correctly, Benny once said that he wouldn’t be able to keep working on MailMate with regular sales alone and he really needs the regular support of patrons to keep going.

I have no links to Benny. I am just a (very) happy customer, and I am writing this completely spontaneously. While I understand that quite a lot of people are allergic to software *subscriptions*, and I dislike them myself, I am willing to make exceptions, and MM is definitely one of them. Being a MM Patron is a kind of subscription. But I really feel that the app and the developer fully deserve it.

If MailMate feels essential to you like it does to me, I suspect that Benny’s latest message about his troubles with the Google evaluation process also reminded you of how much work has to go on behind the scenes that most of us are not even aware of in order to maintain this essential app. And I really feel that work deserves to be compensated — regularly, and not just with a (very reasonably priced) one-off purchase.

Pierre
