What you describe still works in version 1.14 r5818 (the latest beta).  
I went back and tried r5737 (Shift-Spacebar did not scroll backwards) 
and r5773 where both worked as you said.  So if you didn’t want to go 
all the way forward to the latest beta, v 1.14 r5773 will work.
