Rob,

You **can** select between different email addresses of one vCard.

In Contacts: Go to the „Edit“ menu and select „Edit Distribution List“

There you will find a list with all available groups and for each group a list of associated contacts with **all** of their email addresses. Now you can select the email address of a group member which will be used if you send an email to this group. Different groups can use different email addresses of one and the same contact. No multiple vCards needed.

The distribution list of a group in Contacts allows me to change between the different email addresses of a contact. That allows me to stick with one vCard per person but allows me to switch between the contact groups (or send to all groups at once). In addition I have better control which email addresses are actually used when I send an email to a specific group.
