It was in the r5107 (1.9.2 beta 1):

* Changed: Vertical drag in messages outline no longer selects (hidden 
preference to revert this change: 
`MmMessagesOutlineVerticalDragSelects`).

But I don't expect anyone to read the release notes :-)
