Henry,

Thanks for all of that information. Earlier today I re-upped my license to the subscription model and then downloaded and installed the beta 7037. It seems to have a bug that prevented sent messages from actually sending. They stayed in Drafts indefinitely and I kept getting an Error dialog every few minutes saying so. Claude diagnosed the problem and put a workaround in place so that it is now working for me, but I’ll list the symptoms and the workaround description here in case it helps anyone else:

Setup

MailMate 3.0 beta r7037, upgraded from r6272 (which worked). macOS 26 (Darwin 25.6).

Single Office 365 account, OAuth2 for both IMAP and SMTP.

IMAP: outlook.office365.com:993, SSL required.

SMTP: smtp.office365.com:587, port selection manual, SSL required.

Symptoms

Sent messages stay in Drafts and are never submitted.

The SMTP section of the Activity Viewer stays empty, and no errors are shown.

On quit, MailMate hangs on "Closing server connections… 2 active SMTP connections" and has to be force-quit.

IMAP is unaffected: fetching, IDLE and syncing drafts all work.

Diagnosis

MmDebugConnect shows the SMTP connection stalling after attempt_connect: smtp.office365.com, port: 587. It eventually logs:
Failed connecting: smtp.office365.com, port: 587, starttls: 0

netstat shows several established connections to port 587. Each has 129 bytes in its receive queue that are never read: the server's plaintext 220 … Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service ready greeting. MailMate appears to be treating 587 as implicit TLS (starttls: 0) and waiting for a TLS handshake that the server never starts.

The server itself is fine: openssl s_client -connect smtp.office365.com:587 -starttls smtp completes a TLS 1.3 handshake normally.

IMAP connections on 993 (implicit TLS) go straight on to XOAUTH2 authentication without trouble.

Workaround
defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmNetworkFrameworkEnabled -bool NO

After a relaunch, SMTP reads the greeting, does STARTTLS, and logs in with XOAUTH2. All the queued messages sent, and quitting no longer hangs.

Hi Jeff,

The main MM page sadly takes you to old an v2 download place. V2 works, though it’s not the latest builds. Perhaps this is the Dev’s conundrum? Installations of later 2.0 versions do NOT show 3.0 versions.

You may choose to update to v3.0 Test Builds series to at least install the acknowledged “beta” version there using the developer’s MM sub-archive index page. Everything in this series is also listed as “PreRelease” going forward.

Perhaps you’d only like the latest “Beta” in the series? If you are supporting the development it may be a good idea to know what is being developed? You will find the official beta version is 3.0(7024) available (check for new builds by not holding down the ⌥ key) after installing any 3.0 Build.

SFAIK, from my look back at original Status pages, no further development has been done on MM V2.0 since 2.0(r6292) in 25OCT2025. Many people still use it, I suppose. However new MacOS development has outpaced this version and other server development as well over the last year! You should also look at the pricing info on the Home Page.

For unknown reasons, the Developer posted the directions about the version upgrade to this site back at the time he started it (SEP2026) in this forum and has not repeated it. The Release Notes are updated nicely for each later 3.0 build release. Suppose the hope is that Forum pages will help spread the word.

After your installation, you can update by holding down the ⌥ (option key) when clicking on menu>MailMate>Check for Update to get latest builds, of which the latest is now the r3037 build (in sequence). I haven’t gotten to this version yet.

HIH.

Respectfully,

I’m sorry to ask what is probably a dumb question, but where are you getting updates? I am currently at 6272. When I check for updates, either through MM or online at freron.com, I can’t see anything that is more recent than 6272. Please advise.
