Shoshanna,

I have a Gmail account. What I do in MM is simply built a filter to move my sent mail to an archive where all incoming mail (not spam) is stored.

So as a further explanation, my Inbox which contains all incoming mail, it is first cleaned by a spam filter. It removes all junk or spam. Then, I review all incoming mail and act on it. The (filtered) mail after reading it or otherwise acting on it is manually moved to an Archive folder using the menu button to archive it. This month to date I received 182 good messages. I replied to one.

The sent mail on that account is moved by a rule in MM to the same archive folder. This yields all mail that isn’t junk/spam or otherwise deleted resident in one mailbox. Which sounds like the same goal you have. I use a 15 day delay on my rule action for housekeeping purposes. So that sent mail is included in the Archive making 183 items in it.

As to your conversation view that can be adjusted by a setting the resulting combined folder so it’s organized in any view you want - whether threaded or not.

I'm using MailMate with a Gmail account, and I BCC mail to myself, so that a copy of my own message will land in my inbox. (I've never understood the point of Sent Mail folders. I don't want to have to flip back and forth to see both halves of a conversation -- and I dislike "conversation view." I just want to see individual messages, in order.)

Usually a message that I've sent and BCCed to myself lands in my MailMate inbox as it should. But occasionally Gmail apparently intercepts it somehow and doesn't give it the "Inbox" label, meaning that it doesn't show up in my MailMate inbox. I have to notice that it didn't arrive, go into Gmail's web interface, open Sent Mail, and manually move the message to my inbox, whereupon it obediently shows up in my MailMate inbox.

I can't find any pattern to when this happens. I just sent two messages, five minutes apart, and one appeared in my inbox and the other one didn't.

The obvious way to kluge a solution to this would be to set up a Gmail filter that applies the Inbox label to all messages arriving from me. But "Inbox" is not an option in the "Apply a Label" dropdown when creating a Gmail filter, so I can't do that.

Does anyone have an idea what might be happening, or a suggestion for how to fix it? I recognize that asking a question that's essentially "How can I make Gmail behave sensibly?" invites a response of bitter laughter -- and also that this isn't really a MailMate question at all, sorry, but asking the Internet at large how to make Gmail behave sensibly isn't any help at all. So this group of smart tech-savvy people is what I've got... Thanks for any ideas!
