<p dir="auto">All the other settings you list (thank you) are the same, except I have 'standard' instead of Apple Mail for theme, and have embedding etc of html to 'always' (hoping that it is more emphatic about formatting).</p>
<p dir="auto">The previews (and indeed messages I sent myself to test, even in Outlook) all look fine. It's specifically when <My_text_a> (which looked fine on sending) gets a response from someone else that includes <My_text_a> below their response. At that point <My_text-a> has had white space stripped out.</p>
<p dir="auto">So I can't recreate it or systematically test it – I suspect it's something to do with other people's settings when they reply.</p>
<p dir="auto">I'll try Bill's suggestion of spaces and/or tabs (I assumed these wouldn't render but let's see!)</p>
