<p dir="auto">I recently started using EagleFiler because my mailbox had grown too large — nearly 100 GB.</p>
<p dir="auto">I’m not sure I followed the best approach, but I’m satisfied with the outcome. Still, the process took quite a while; I left my Mac running overnight for several nights to complete the imports. Getting straight to the point, here are the steps I followed:</p>

<p dir="auto">I exported messages from MailMate as .eml files, grouped by year.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p dir="auto">I made a full backup using Time Machine.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p dir="auto">I imported the files into EagleFiler, one year at a time.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p dir="auto">After each import, EagleFiler took about an hour to index the files, so I let the process run overnight while I slept. Tip: use <code style="margin: 0 0; padding: 0 0.25em; border-radius: 3px; background-color: #F7F7F7;">caffeinate -i</code> in the Terminal to prevent your Mac from sleeping.</p>

<p dir="auto">I converted the .eml files into .mbox format to improve performance. This step might not be necessary if your export is already an .mbox. If not, inside EagleFiler go to Records > Merge Mailboxes/Message Files.</p>

<p dir="auto">As nice as EF seems and flexible and well-supported, too, I have not been able to get a clean import migration using my existing previously migrated Mail.app data, the current MM already selected Archived folders, MacOS 15.6. Would like to know how you may have accomplished this task, what problems you ran into and overcame and if it has worked out well for you.</p>
