Just a guess, Zvi, Benny tries to use the most compatible approach to his coding in the app. He uses McOS coding in the app for text handling, as an example (SHIFT+ ⌘+U to mark email/groups of mail as read, ⌘ + DEL key to likewise trash selected emails) .

As a user, I like that approach. It is unfortunate but not universally shared by all dev’s. Hence Apple’s sandboxing of their OS in a bunch of ways (partitioning, lock up the OS) to keep it clean. Also useful for viruses although by no means bullet-proof.

I don’t think attempting turning off anything in MacOS would be possible and/or acceptable.

Your approach to reversing some pre-made coding (and future ones?) has a good chance of succeeding. Maybe suggest putting them in the app? That way, if accepted, the same codings found to be useful will remain in future versions and be useful to all of us.

From what I can see, this preference-pane shortcut manager allows you to add bindings to menu items, but not to disable binding to items that aren't already listed in the pane (and there are many built-in system-wide bindings that aren't listed). For my case, (which is not particularly worth anyone's time, FWIW) I need to disable the existing binding, so MM can claim it for a series of actions defined through its own plists, not for an already-defined menu item. At any rate, it is easier at this point to choose different keys than to muck with this. Thank you for your help.

Great idea, Sam. If it can’t go through MM, then at the system level, seems like you should be able to get it to work the way you want. I would try through the app itself and if not found there, the at the System level.

Hi All,
Does anyone know how to override/change/delete keybinding associated with built-in functions, like those in the Edit->Find dropdown menu?
Thanks.
