I can set the text by choosing for example "bigger" and "smaller" in MailMate, but that is only for "plain text" messages. I would like "bigger" and "smaller" also be applied to explicit CSS provided inline. For example, if I want normally 18point text (instead of say 12pt), then an inline 8pt text should not be displayed as 8pt, because it will hardly be visible (on my new 4k monitor :-) ).</p>

<p dir="auto">The handling of small HTML fonts is probably best handled using the minimum font size setting in the Viewer preferences pane.</p>

<p dir="auto">Some things are probably possible using <code style="background-color:#F7F7F7; border-radius:3px; margin:0; padding:0 0.4em" bgcolor="#F7F7F7"></code> for the CSS definitions. (But nothing is ever easy when dealing with HTML in emails :) )</p>
<p dir="auto">For plain text emails: I'm waiting for Apple to roll out support for specifying colors in CSS to be used in dark mode. This is supported in the Safari Technology Preview (which is why I'm currently postponing looking into it).</p>
