For an “IMAP Mailbox” (server-side folder), at a minimum it has to 
be a child of the “Source”, so you can right-click on the server 
name at the top of the Sources list.

Alternatively, you can create a new “Smart Mailbox” by 
right-clicking anywhere, then dragging the resulting folder up to the 
top level. While dragging, look for a horizontal bar with a dot on one 
end, sitting between two folder names. This is your dragging target 
indicator, and no other folders should be highlighted.

For a smart folder that will just hold other sub-folders, you can then 
clear all of the rules initially inserted by MailMate on creation.
